Donostia - San Sebastián is located in the northeast of the Spanish Basque Country: 110 km from Bilbao, 500 km from Madrid, and 800 km from Paris. It is a charming medium-size city set in a picturesque countryside, on the edge of the Biscay Gulf and surrounded by mountains. A city of deep-rooted international tourist tradition dating back to the 19th century, San Sebastián offers quite a few tourist attractions, a varied choice of hotels and one of the most creative gastronomies in the world. The scientific sessions of QAMTS2024 as well as the welcome reception will be held in the unique environment of the Miramar Palace that overlooks San Sebastián's Bay. Its rooms are home to the University of the Basque Country Summer Courses:
Travel
There are three main airports that can be used to reach San Sebastian:
San Sebastian airport, Spain (EAS, 25 km. from the city center)
Next to the town of Hondarribia, about 30 minutes driving from San Sebastian city center. A small airport with domestic connections (Iberia) to Madrid and Barcelona. Some international connections are also available in summer. Very convenient whenever a connection through Madrid is possible. A taxi from the airport to San Sebastian city center is around 40 euros. The airport is also connected to the city center through bus lines E20 and E21 (operated by Ekialdebus).
Biarritz airport, France (BIQ, 50 km. from the city center)
40 minutes driving from San Sebastian city center. Convenient when flying from France or London.
Bilbao airport, Spain (BIO, 100 km. from the city center)
About 1 hour driving from San Sebastian city center. Bilbao is an international airport with connections to many major cities in Europe (London, Paris, Frankfurt, Brussels, Rome,...). The most convenient one for overseas travelers in terms of connections and air fares. A direct shuttle bus running every hour connects the airport with San Sebastian for about 17 euros.
Accommodation
The registration does not include accommodation. Participants should make their booking on their own. Donostia-San Sebastian offers a large variety of accommodations, ranging from 5-star hotels to hostels and student residences.
